In this report, we aim to provide relevant information for the ongoing national collective bargaining negotiations for university faculty. To achieve this, we will begin by analyzing the variation in the purchasing power of salaries from 2015 to 2022. Then, we will compare the salary increases obtained in public universities with the overall wage increases in the public sector, as well as in the formal and informal private sectors, during the past year.
Next, we will include a section highlighting the impact of the wage bargaining delays in recent years, illustrating the harmful effects of having negotiations run from March to March instead of from January to December. Finally, we will conclude by outlining the four categories that, in our view, summarize the key variables to consider in the 2023 bargaining process. These are the total amount, differentiated values, frequency, and format of the salary increases.
